In the race between technology and humanity, who will win?

The Human Race is an innovative short film that utilized leading-edge technology—Epic Games’ Unreal Engine and The Mill’s Blackbird rig—to create an interactive short film that enabled viewers to select and customize the vehicle featured in the film in real time. This revolutionary technology virtually eliminated production limitations due to vehicle availability once and for all: the vehicle being filmed didn’t need to be on set at all—this technology allowed production teams to digitally render any vehicle in real time.

To showcase this technology, The Mill and Unreal Games partnered with Chevrolet to create a captivating fictional tale about the ultimate race: one of man versus machine. In the film, we pit a decorated, veteran (and fictional) race car driver in a Camaro ZL1 against an entirely fictional AI-powered vehicle named A.X.A. Not only did the Chevrolet Global Content Studio create the film and it’s concept, we also built and launched a pre-release social campaign to hype the short film’s debut. This campaign crafted lore to surround this epic ‘race’ with character cards, vlog-style research videos of the AI vehicle’s creation, and more.

The Human Race garnered multiple international awards for it’s innovative storytelling and use of cutting-edge technology.
